Nisargadatta Maharaj

Who is Nisargadatta !

Shree Nisargadatta is an Awakened Advaita Sage, who rose from the by lanes of Mumbai, India. [ 1897 – 1981 ]

How do you introduce this unique personality…who….for thirty years taught that This ‘personality’ itself is an illusion?   This is a daunting task indeed !

Nisargadatta Maharaj spoke relentlessly on Advaita-Vedanta and on the Only Question worth pondering… “Who Am I”… “Who is this ‘me’ !He is indeed…Advaita personified…!!

Nisargadatta would always expound the Final Truth… Only…from the Absolute level. His expressions never needed any support from the scriptures; but would always be based entirely on his Own Direct Understanding.

In the 1970's, the immediacy of Nisargadatta's transmission arrested the attention of many seekers worldwide.

Some of the followers of the contemporary masters like Osho, Swami Chinmayananda, Maa. Ananadmayee and J. Krishnamurthy would also call upon Nisargadatta.

People visiting ashrams of Ramana Maharshi and Bhagwan Nityananda would invariably come to Nisargadatta; as the discussions and teachings were forthright and lucid, never experienced before.

The residence of this renowned spiritual master was a tiny room in a crowded noisy street in Mumbai. The teachings from his small room had the atmosphere of timelessness. The subject discussed transcended time - holding good for all ages!

Nisargadatta was a remarkably simple family man. Most unpretentious by nature and dressed in the most ordinary clothes.

Nisargadatta was the embodiment of wisdom found in the Vedas and the Upanishadas. He felt that a huge Ashram or Mission was not necessary to spread his message as the essence of his teachings would anyway find its own way out. He preferred to remain…. relatively unknown.

“Know thy Self” - The Understanding itself is Realization”
This is Nisargadatta's…Ultimate Medicine!
